Education has been a priority in Madison from the very beginning. The first settlers came to Madison Township in 1798, and the first schools in Madison were established by 1815. By the mid-1850’s, there were twenty-one schools in the village and township. These early schools were scattered around so that no student would have to walk more than two miles to get to school.
One Educational Goal of the Madison Historical Society is centered around teaching children about Madison’s rich history. The society partners with Madison Local Schools to present relevant programs to all students in the third and seventh grades, and high school Honors American History.
We are also committed to educating the general public. The Madison Historical Society welcomes the opportunity to speak onsite to local groups and organizations of all ages; and are able to host small groups in our West Main Street location. For more information about this, contact us at 440-417-1959, or email [email protected].
